Shopping Tips
- Check all the emporiums, because these are run by the Indian government and thereby would offer many things, especially handicrafts and other art monuments at cheaper prices.
- There are separate markets specializing in separate products, for example, there is a specialized market like ‘Janpath’ in central Delhi city, which is known among the trendy crowd in the Delhi city, and the ‘Sarojini Nagar’ is popular for household goods, etc… Checking for these specific markets/shops/places would definitely help in engaging ourselves more into the shopping experience, as we won’t be wasting our energy and time in searching for our list of goods and products in some other markets/places.
- You could check the ‘Central Cottage Emporium’, which is close to the Connaught Place is quite popular among the tourists, as most of the sales people do speak in English.
- The ‘Tibetan market’, which is situated next to the Janpath is quite popular for the crafts products and the jewelry items/materials. The products in this market, ranges from the elegant materials and jewels that are made up of the chunky and freaky ethnic materials/resources, accounting to a cost from 2 to 3 dollars, onwards.
- If you are a tourist, then be cautious, while buying the things from the markets/shops, because some people are keen in cheating, especially, the tourists.
- Try to bargain and negotiate to a favorable price to you. The best thing to aid you while shopping would be to get accompanied by a local person from Delhi, by that way you could avoid the circumstances, where you would be cheated by the shop keepers and sales person. If there is no option like that, then try to be aware of the most significant things in bargaining and if possible get a rough idea from the internet, regarding the prices of the products that are available in the market/shops.
- Try to keep changes (money) with you, as in many Delhi shops that too the shops in the local bazars and market places would not be providing the opportunities to use the credit cards. Do not trust the people, especially, if they come up with the idea of taking your card and swiping it in some other shops. Just ignore these options, even if it is going to happen in front of your eyes.
